To celebrate the news that Ireland has been chosen to host the prestigious World Barista Championships in 2016, the coffee and tea industry will give the public a fascinating insight into café culture this September with the launch of the inaugural Dublin Coffee & Tea Festival 2014. A first-time event for Ireland, it will celebrate the ever-more sophisticated tastes for coffee and tea in the country, taking place at the RDS (Industries Hall), Dublin 12-14 September 2014.
Created by both the Irish Foodservice Suppliers Alliance (IFSA) and the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE- Irish branch) the Festival will celebrate every aspect of the coffee & tea world from where the tea and coffee come from how they are brewed, the varieties on offer today, the latest brewing equipment on the market and all the enjoyment that goes with it including cakes and chocolate.
Chairman of Insomnia, Bobby Kerr when asked about the upcoming event, had this to say “The coffee and tea industry in Ireland has grown in line with world standards with an extensive range of products and services meeting the demands of the increasingly educated and discerning consumer. The ‘quick cuppa’ no longer just means throwing a spoon of instant into a cup and this Festival is a fantastic opportunity for companies like ours to share our new offerings with a captive audience in a fun and friendly setting. It’s a win-win for all.”
An all-encompassing show, the Dublin Coffee & Tea Festival will be brimming with events for all to enjoy including;
The Roasters’ Village: a hub of coffee and tea micro roasters and retailers all keen to engage one on one with the public.
The People’s Stage: from farmers at origin to roasters to fairtrade and green bean farmers this is a platform for all the experts and enthusiasts in the field to share their wealth of knowledge and answer questions.
The Festival Roastery: a micro-roastery at the show where the public can experience the roasting process first-hand.
The Food Village: to whet the appetites even further there will be a range of pastry and chocolate makers on hand to share their latest offerings for all to taste.
The Dublin Coffee & Tea Festival is not just an exhibition, it is a celebration of the exciting ‘scene’ that goes with it. There will be plenty to see and do in when it comes to entertainment at the festival from the moment you arrive.
The Dublin Coffee & Tea Festival has also just announced that it is set to launch the first ever Home Barista Competition in Ireland. The competition, which presents the public with the opportunity to demonstrate their skill at making speciality coffees themselves at home, has been designed along the lines of the infamous World Barista Competition for professionals.
The competition is very practical and will operate along a very strict set of criteria. Each competitor will, during a maximum time frame, make and serve an espresso and a cappuccino, using milk and coffee as the only ingredients and an espresso coffee machine with cups/ mugs as the only tools.
Coffee excellence is the hallmark of Speciality Coffee Association of Europe and SCAE Ireland will run a number of its professional national competitions allowing the public to view the very best in action over the 3 days.
