To kick-start a healthy summer we re-launched our whole salad range and launched two deliciously new wraps. With a complete range of four salads, from Irish ham & brie, funky couscous cakes salad with hummus to oriental sesame chicken noodle salad or a classic tuna nicoise and two summer wraps: Mango Chicken and Chicken, Bacon &Sweet Onion, there is something for everyone’s liking.

Tell us a bit about yourself? I am a barista at Insomnia for 7 years. During this time I learnt a lot about coffee and achieved such great experience in one of the biggest industries in the world. At the beginning of my adventure with coffee I was so excited about it that in 2008 I decided to attend the Irish Barista Championship. It was a huge challenge for me, because it was my first time competing in an event like that, but it was worth it! I finished in 4th place. It was a great result for me.

How many baristas do you manage?I manage 6 baristas and each one of them makes a great cup of coffee which always brings a smile to our customers faces.

What do you like best about working at Insomnia? I really like working with my team and serving the best cup of coffee in Blackrock. All my staff are very happy to see our customers when they walk into our coffee shop and smell freshly grounded coffee! Insomnia gave me an opportunity to develop my barista skills and this is the most important thing for me and gives me great job satisfaction.

What Insomnia beverage, sandwich or pastry would you suggest to customers to try and why? I would suggest they try our ‘smooth and strong’ Flat White which since launched in 2010 and has since become my favourite beverage. I used to drink Lattes before but a Flat White is stronger which allows me to taste the uniqueness of Insomnia coffee. I would also like to recommend a warm chocolate escargot which is yummy!

Insomnia Coffee Company, Ireland’s largest independently owned coffee shop chain, today announced plans to enter into the retail franchising market. The new strategy will allow entrepreneurs to share in the success of the Insomnia brand while also supporting the company’s ambition to
further increase its market presence. The Company plans to open 15 stores over the next 5 years through selectively recruiting and qualifying suitable franchisees. This will lead to the creation of 100 new jobs.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Insomnia Chairman, Bobby Kerr said: “Our commitment to brand innovation, quality of service and great
coffee has driven our continued growth and success over the years. We have now reached a point in our development where we believe that partnering with ambitious entrepreneurs through a best practice franchising relationship will support our future growth and expansion plans. Celebrating Sustainability at Insomnia this Earth Day

Here at Insomnia, we care about sustainability. The ecological impacts of our daily business can be extensive. We are aware of this and put every effort towards acting sustainably. On April 22, more than one billion people around the globe will participate in Earth Day 2012 and help “Mobilise the Earth. This Earth Day, we would like to remind our customers of our various sustainable activities.

100% Fairtrade certified coffee, tea and hot chocolate

We have launched our 100% Fairtrade certified coffee and tea in 2006 and since the beginning of 2011 our hot chocolate is 100% Fairtrade certified too. Over a year we sell over 6 million Fairtrade cups of coffee and 16 tonnes of Fairtrade chocolate, which enables farmers and workers who provide our Fairtrade products to improve their working and living conditions.

Moreover, every year during the 2 weeks of Fairtrade Fortnight, we raise funds for our two nominated Insomnia Projects at the Oromia Coffee Farmers Co-operative Union in Ethiopia, from where we source our high quality Ethiopian Sidamo coffee, which is used in

Free Coffee Grounds for Gardeners

We have pounds and pounds of coffee grounds available in our stores every day. Using coffee grounds on plants and gardens is sustainable and beneficial. The benefits to your soil are great. There are three ways to use coffee grounds on your plants: as fertilizer, for composting and to control pests. You can use the grounds to take care of your plants all year round.

We are happy to supply them to our customers for free for their gardening. Pick up a free coffee cound bag in any of our stores. It’s great to know that our grounds can be put to such good use after you enjoyed your favourite coffee!

Initial investment

Including the initial franchise fee our franchisees are required to have in the region of € 155,000 of investment capital available to them plus whatever initial working capital may be required to establish the business before the franchisee can commence taking funds from the business.
