Company History Our Coffee
Insomnia Coffee Company is proud to be Ireland’s leading independent, premium coffee chain.
We have grown from a single location in a Galway bookstore 1997 to an estate of over 170 outlets, including owned stores and franchises, through partnerships with SPAR, Eurospar, Mace and Londis as well as other Irish retailers such as Eason, Fresh, Meadows & Byrne, Maxol, and Penneys.
In addition, the company has 400+ self-service units in operation, both in Ireland and the UK.
In 2003, the company merged with the gourmet sandwich company, Bendini & Shaw, to combine a quality food offering with its hot beverage range. In 2005, Insomnia acquired the Perk cafes.
In April 2012, the Insomnia High street franchise was launched and the process of recruiting new franchise owners began with a target of opening 15 franchise stores in 5 years. Our first franchise store opened in 2013.
Insomnia also has a partnership with leading Irish based retail business, Penneys (Primark). To date, Insomnia has opened in several Penneys stores in Ireland including Waterford, Swords, Liffey Valley and Athlone, with further openings in the UK including Primark in Bromley, Reading and Oxford Street.
We have one simple philosophy; that you get the best cup of coffee, in whichever format you choose, every time you visit our stores. Quality and Innovation are at the core of this philosophy. From the Fairtrade coffee we serve, to the handcrafted technique we use to make every single cup. Change is good and we like to see the word 'new' in our stores regularly. We have an appetite for innovation, whether that's new flavours, new technologies or new stores, we are always looking for new ways to surprise and delight.
